Happy ’80s Birthday to Willie Horton, who made his debut in 1963 and wrapped up his big-league career with Seattle in 1980, then signed with the Pirates and spent two years in the minor leagues before retiring.

Happy ’80s Birthday to George Hendrick, who didn’t talk much but he sure did hit. George racked up nearly 2,000 hits over 18 seasons.

Ed Farmer was born OTD in 1949. Ed pitched in the bigs for 11 years for multiple teams and worked as a broadcaster for the White Sox for many years. He passed away in 2020.

Allen Ripley was born OTD in 1953. He spent five years in the bigs with the Giants, Red Sox, and Cubs, winning 23 games. Alan passed away in 2018 from Leukemia.

Happy ’80s Birthday to Andy Hassler, who signed a six-year half-million dollar contract with the Pirates heading into 1980 despite having a career record of 32-60. The contract contained a $50,000 incentive if he won the Cy Young Award. “It was the only thing I could bargain for,” he said. He didn’t collect.

Happy ’80s Birthday to Jerry Royster, who spent 16 years in the bigs and stole nearly 200 bases. He spent most of his career with the Braves.

Happy ’80s Birthday to Mike Walters, who was drafted five times and made his debut with the Twins in 1983.

Happy ’80s Birthday to Steve Kiefer, who spent parts of six seasons in the bigs with the A’s Brewers, and Yankees.

Happy ’80s Birthday to Terry Clark, who spent parts of six years in the bigs with seven teams. His son, Matt, played in the big leagues and his daughter-in-law is a sideline reporter for the Astros.

Happy ’80s Birthday to Jeff Wetherby, who appeared in 52 games for the 1989 Braves. He hit one career dinger and it happened to come off of Greg Maddux.

The Twins score 6 in the bottom of the 4th and Bert Blyleven goes 7 as Minnesota takes a 2-0 lead over the Cardinals in Game 2 of the 1987 World Series. The Twins outscored the Twins 18-5 in the first two games.

10/18/88

Mark McGwire’s home run off Jay Howell in the bottom of the 9th inning gives Oakland a 2 – 1 victory over the Dodgers in Game 3 of the World Series.
