The Cubs trade Mike O’Berry to the Cincinnati Reds for Jay Howell. Chicago would send Howell to the Yankees in a deal involving Pat Tabler. He would then be sent to Oakland in the Rickey deal and then to the Dodgers in the Bob Welch deal.

Pirates broadcaster Jim Rooker finally reaches home plate at Three Rivers Stadium after walking from Philadelphia to raise money for charity. The walk stemmed from a June 8th game against the Phillies when the Pirates took an 10-0 lead in the first inning. Rooker stated if the Pirates lost, he would walk home. The stunt raised about $100,000.
