Happy ’80s Birthday to Steve Buechele, who went to Stanford and roomed with some dude named Elway. He was also high school teammates with Mike Witt and took his former teammate deep for his 2nd career dinger in 1985.

Happy ’80s Birthday to Rich Gedman, who made his big league debut late in 1980 and finished 2nd in the 1981 A.L. Rookie of the Year balloting to Dave Righetti.

Happy ’80s Birthday to Dave Martinez, who spent 16 seasons in the bigs with nine teams. He was the Opening Day right fielder for the Tampa Bay Rays first game and won a World Series as manager of the Washington Nationals. 

Kelvin Moore was born OTD in 1957. Moore was the A’s Opening Day first baseman in 1983 and played parts of three seasons with Oakland. He passed away in 2014.

Happy ’80s Birthday to Doug Sisk, who came out of the bullpen for nine years for the Mets, Braves, and Orioles and won a ring in 1986.

Happy ’80s Birthday to Joe Skalski, who appeared in two games for Cleveland in 1989.

Ozzie Smith records his 602nd assist of the season to set a record for shortstops. He would finish the season with 621, a record that still stands.

Mike Norris allows 10 runs on 17 hits and strikes out nine in a CG loss to the Brewers because Billy Martin.

Nolan Ryan throws the 5th no-hitter of his career.

Bob Forsch throws the 2nd no-hitter of his career. Forsch faces the minimum in each inning except the 4th when he hits Gary Carter with a pitch and Chris Speier reaches on a Ken Oberkfell error.

Juan Samuel sets a rookie stolen base record when he swipes his 72nd bag. Tim Raines set the previous mark in 1981

John Tudor wins his 20th game, which is even more impressive when you consider that he was 1-7 at the end of May. He went 20-1 after that.

Ron Kittle homers twice and drives in 5 as the White Sox beat the A’s 11-7.

9/26/86

Brian Downing homers twice and drives in six in an 8-3 Angels win over Texas. The win clinches the division title for the Angels.

Benito Santiago sets a rookie record by extending his hitting streak to 28 games. He would get to 33 before being shut out.

9/26/87

Matt Nokes homers twice and drives in six but the Tigers fall to Toronto 10-9.

9/26/88

The Dodgers clinch the N.L. West by beating the Padres 3-2.

9/26/89

The Cubs clinch the N.L. East with a 3-2 win over the Expos
