Happy ’80s Birthday to  John Candelaria, who won 114 games for the Pirates between 1976 and 1984 and 177 overall. He’s also the only pitcher to win at least one game in all four Canadian ballparks.

Happy ’80s Birthday to Ron Romanick, who was drafted three times and won 26 games in his first two seasons for the Angels.

Happy ’80s Birthday to Leo Hernandez, who spent parts of four seasons in the bigs with the Orioles and Yankees and won a ring with the 1983 Birds.

Happy ’80s Birthday to Leo Garcia, who appeared in 54 games for the Reds in 1987 and 1988. He also coached in the minor leagues.

The Orioles trade Terry Crowley (minors) and Rico Rossy to the Pittsburgh Pirates for Joe Orsulak. After spending all of 1987 in the minor leagues, Orsulak hits .288 for the O’s in 125 games.

The Reds trade Ted Power and Kurt Stillwell to the Royals for Angel Salazar and Danny Jackson. Jackson wins 23 games for Cincinnati in 1988 and helps them win a World Series in 1990.

The Braves sign Javy Lopez as an amateur free agent just one day after he turns 17. He makes his big-league debut in 1992 and helps the Braves win a World Series in 1995.

The Braves sign Greg Olson as a free agent. He becomes Atlanta’s everyday catcher and makes the All-Star team.

The clock expires on the window available to the Dodgers to re-sign Steve Garvey and he officially joins the free agent pool. He signs with the Padres for 1983 and finishes his career in San Diego.

Phormer Phillies P Willie Hernandez is named AL MVP, joining phormer Phillies 2B Ryne Sandberg who wins the NL MVP.

11/6/85

Bobby Cox is named Manager of the Year after managing the Blue Jays to their first divisional title.

The Royals release Mike LaCoss. He signs with the Giants and wins 47 games over the next six seasons.
