Happy ’80s Birthday to Lloyd Moseby, who quietly put up numbers in the shadow of his teammates for pretty much the entirety of the 1980s.

Happy ’80s Birthday to Craig McMurtry, who finished 2nd in the Rookie of the Year balloting in 1983. He made 35 starts as a rookie. 

Happy ’80s Birthday to Bobby Ramos, who spent six years in the bigs with Montreal and the Yankees, played in the Senior League, and spent more than 20 years as a coach or minor league manager.

Happy ’80s Birthday to Fred Manrique, who spent nine years in the big leagues and formed an All-Venezuela double play combo with Ozzie Guillen with the White Sox from 1987 through 1989.

 

Mike Bishop was born OTD in 1958. He appeared in three games for the 1983 Mets and doubled off Lee Tunnell for his only big-league hit. Mike passed away in 2005. He was just 46.

The A’s trade Cliff Johnson to the Blue Jays for Al Woods. 

Cliff hits 22 bombs the following year for the Jays.

One year to the day after being named Astros manager, Hal Lanier is voted N.L. Manager of the Year.

Transactions

11/5/82

The Mets release Randy Jones and his career is over. 

Randy won 42 games combined in 1976 and ’77 but battled arm troubles. He spent the final two seasons of his career with the Mets and won an even 100 games over the course of his career. 

11/5/84

The Yankees release Matt Keough. 

He signs with the Cardinals and splits 1985 between Triple-A and the big leagues. 

Managerial Changes

11/5/85

The Astros name Hal Lanier as their new manager. He takes them to a thrilling NLCS in 1986 and wins 254 games over three seasons in Houston.

Deaths

We lost Rod Scurry OTD in 1992. Scurry won four games and saved 14 for the Pirates in 1982 but he had a serious drug problem that derailed his career and his life.
