The Brewers release Rollie Fingers and his career is over. He had a chance to pitch for the Reds, but Marge said he’d have to shave his trademark handlebar. Fingers’ reply to Reds general manager Bill Bergesch was: “Well, you tell Marge Schott to shave her Saint Bernard, and I’ll shave my moustache”

He signs with Texas and spends the final two years of his career with the Rangers.

Managerial Changes

The Expos name Buck Rodgers as their new manager after they are unable to coax Earl Weaver out of retirement.

11/14/88

The Angels move on from the Cookie Rojas experience and tap Doug Rader as their new manager. Rader wins 91 games in 1989 but is dismissed after 124 games in 1991.

Deaths

We lost Wil Culmer OTD in 2003 to a cerebral hemorrhage. He was just 56.
