Oakland signs Dave Stewart to a two-year free agent deal. Stew was released by the Phillies in May and spent the rest of the season in Oakland before declaring free agency. Over the next four seasons, he wins 84 games and a ring.

Dave Winfield and Don Sutton are the two biggest names available in the free agent re-entry draft. Both are selected by the maximum ten teams. Winfield signs with the Yankees where George makes his life miserable, and Sutton signs with Houston.

Dave Collins is the most popular position player in the free agent re-entry draft. He eventually signs with the Yankees.

11/13/84

Ryne Sandberg becomes the first Cubs player to win the NL MVP award since Ernie Banks in 1959. Ryno hits .314 with 19 homers, 84 RBI, 32 SBs, and 114 runs scored. He also leads the N.L. in triples (tie) with 19.

Dwight Gooden wins Cy Young Award. 

In his first two seasons, Doc goes 41-13 with an E.R.A. of 2.00 in just short of 500 innings. 

11/13/86

The Cleveland Indians approve the sale of the franchise to shopping mall developers Richard Jacobs and David Jacobs. The Jacobs family inherited a horrible franchise but they turned things around and turned Cleveland into a powerhouse in the mid-1990s.

LaMarr Hoyt pleads guilty to two misdemeanor drug charges and agrees to serve 60 days in federal prison.

The Boston Red Sox release Jim Rice and his career is over. He finishes his Hall of Fame career with 2,452 hits, 382 HR, 1451 RBI, and one saved life.

11/13/89

Dave Dravecky announces his retirement after trying to comeback from cancer in his pitching arm. He finishes with 64 wins.
