1980 NL Rookie of the Year Steve Howe was born OTD in 1958. Howe won 7 games and saved 17 more in his rookie season, but drug problems derailed a promising career. He was killed in an automobile accident in 2006.

Happy ’80s Birthday to John Cangelosi, who stole 50 bags for the White Sox as a rookie in 1986, back when stolen bases were a thing, and won a ring with the Marlins in 1997. Remember stolen bases? They were kinda cool.

Happy ’80s Birthday to Mike Birkbeck, who spent parts of six years in the big leagues with the Brewers and Mets and has been a coach at Kent State since 2004.

Unfortunately, the pain returns and he winds up missing the entire 1983 season as well.
