The Mariners sent Brad Gulden to the Yankees to complete the deal. He was traded for himself.

Mike Schooler throws a scoreless 9th in his big league debut for the Mariners. He picks up a save the following day and spends six years in the major leagues.

George Brett tears ligaments in his ankle on an attempted steal and misses a month.

When he returns to the lineup after the All-Star break he hits .421 for the rest of the season.

Deaths

Former Pirates broadcaster Bob Prince passed away OTD in 1985. 

We lost Lindsey Nelson OTD in 1995. 

Eliot Asinof, who wrote Eight Men Out, passed away OTD in 2008.

Warner Fusselle, known for his work on “This Week in Baseball” passed away OTD in 2012. 

We lost Claudell Washington OTD in 2020.
