As part of a 4-team trade: The Rangers send a PTBNL and Danny Darwin to the Brewers. Milwaukee sends Jim Sundberg to Kansas City, and the Mets send Tim Leary to the Brewers.

Texas receives Don Slaught and the Mets receive Frank Wills.

Texas sends Bill Hance to  Milwaukee to complete the trade.

The A’s sign Bill Almon as a free agent. He spends two years in Oakland and heads to Pittsburgh for 1985.

The Mariners sign Jerry Dybzinski as a free agent. He spends the year in Triple-A and retires after the season.

The Mariners sign Pete Ladd as a free agent. He goes 8-6 out of the pen with six saves. It is his final year in the big leagues.

The New York Daily News publishes a report stating the Mets left Tom Seaver unprotected in the free agent compensation pool. I’m sure it will be fine, though. There’s no way the White Sox will claim him.

Injuries

Brett Butler is playing racquetball in Atlanta when he his hit in the eye with a ball that shatters his protective glasses. A blood clot forms, and he must wear patches over both eyes. He recovers fully and plays 161 games in 1986, leading the A.L. in triples with 14.

Deaths

We lost Don Sutton OTD in 2021.

Don won 324 games over 23 seasons in the big leagues and was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1998
