Dwight Gooden’s agent says his client may sit out the season if the Mets don’t renegotiate his contract. The Mets eventually bump him up from the $40,000 he earned in 1984 to $450,000 in 1985 and he responds by going 24-4, striking out 268 hitters, posting a 1.53 E.R.A., and winning the Cy Young Award.
