Happy ’80s Birthday to The Penguin!

Happy ’80s Birthday to Joe Hesketh, who finished 8th in the 1985 Rookie of the Year balloting.

Happy ’80s Birthday to Mark Davidson, who was an 11th round pick in the 1982 draft by the Twins and spent 6 years in the big leagues. He won a ring with the Twins in 1987. 

Happy ’80s Birthday to Rolando Roomes, who was born in Kingston, Jamaica and spent parts of three seasons in the big leagues with the Cubs, Reds and Expos. 

Happy ’80s Birthday to Barry Jones, who made his debut in 1988 and spent eight years in the big leagues, including leading the NL in appearances in 1991. 

Happy ’80s Birthday to Melido Perez, who won 78 games in the big leagues and threw a rain-shortened no-hitter, as did his brother, Pascual. Another brother, Carlos, also pitched in the big leagues. 

Happy ’80s Birthday to Rick Auerbach, who spent 11 seasons in the big leagues and hit .300 three times.

The Padres trade minor leaguer Joe Carroll, Tucker Ashford, and Gaylord Perry to the Rangers for Willie Montanez. Texas later flips Perry to the Yankees on August 14th for Ken Clay

2/15/80

The Cleveland Indians trade Jerry Mumphrey to the Padres for Bob Owchinko and Jim Wilhelm.

2/15/88

The Reds trade relief pitcher Jeff Montgomery to the Royals for outfield prospect Van Snider.

Montgomery would record 304 saves for the Royals. The Reds flipped Snider to the Yankees for Hal Morris in 1989. Snider retired and went into law enforcement.

2/15/89

The Brewers trade Dan Murphy to the Padres for minor leaguer Todd Simmons and Jim Austin.

Murphy appears in 7 games for the Pads in 1989, his only big league action. 

2/15/83

The Blue Jays sign Randy Moffitt as a free agent. 

In his final big league season, Moffitt goes 6-2 out of the Jays’ bullpen. 

2/15/85

The Expos sign Steve Nicosia as a free agent. 

He plays 42 games for Montreal before being released and finishing the season with Toronto. 

2/15/89

The Cardinals sign Leon Durham as a free agent. 

He returns to St. Louis, with whom he made his debut in 1980, and appears in 29 games at the major league level.
