Famous umpire, opera singer and, assassin stopper Enrico Palazzo was born on this day in 1926. He passed away in 2010.

The Astros trade Bruce Bochy to the Mets for players to be named later. New York sent Stan Hough and Randy Rogers to Houston to complete the trade.

The Ozzie Smith for Garry Templeton trade is finally official. The deal had been agreed to in December of 1981, but Smith wanted a new contract and the deal was put on hold until Ozzie’s contract could be worked out.

The Dodgers sign Bobby Castillo as a free agent. He appears in 35 games and his major league career is over.

The Dodgers sign Jack Perconte as a free agent. He hits .280 in Triple-A and his career is over.
