Happy ’80s Birthday to Jim Barr, who was drafted six different times and won 101 games for the Giants and Angels

Happy ’80s Birthday to Lenny Dykstra, who spent 12 years in the big leagues and was the catalyst of the 1993 N.L. Champion Phillies. 

Happy ’80s Birthday to lefty Larry McWilliams, who finished 5th in the Cy Young balloting with the Pirates in 1983. Larry won 15 games that year and struck out 199 batters 238 innings.

Happy ’80s Birthday to Lenny Webster, who spent 12 years in the bigs with the Twins, Expos, Orioles, Phillies, and Red Sox.

Happy ’80s Birthday to Jack Fimple, who took an amazing path to the big leagues.

Jack was in the Coast Guard and decided to try out for a local Semi-Pro team called the Humboldt Crabs. He made the team and played well enough to get noticed by a coach at Humboldt State University. He then got drafted by the Dodgers and spent parts of four seasons in the show.

The Rangers sign Jose Guzman as an amateur free agent. He makes his big league debut in 1985 and spends eight years in the major leagues.

The Angels purchase Luis Sanchez from Veracruz in the Mexican League.

The Phillies sign Bill Dawley as a free agent. He appears in eight games at the major league level and spends 1989 in Triple-A and the Oakland A’s.

The Reds sign Eddie Milner as a free agent. He returns to Cincinnati and plays in just 23 games at the major league level before his career is over. 

2/10/89

The White Sox signed Jerry Willard as a free agent. He spends the entire year in the minor leagues, but plays parts of four seasons in the major leagues from 1990 through 1994.
