Happy ’80s Birthday to Craig Reynolds, who was the Opening Day shortstop for the Mariners in their first season. He was also named to the National League All-Star team in 1979 because there was a certain shortstop who (supposedly) said that if he wasn’t startin’ he wasn’t departin’.

Happy ’80s Birthday to Chico Escarrega, who went 1-3 for the 1982 White Sox.

Happy ’80s Birthday to Mark Budaska, who played in 13 games for the A’s between 1978 and 1981 and spent 20 years as a hitting coach.

Happy ’80s Birthday to Gary Weiss, who appeared in 22 games for the Dodgers in 1980 and 1981.

Ed Whitson signs a free agent deal with the Yankees. That doesn’t really work out, especially for Billy Martin.

The Rangers sign Dave Rozema as a free agent. He goes 3-7 in 1985, throws 10 innings in 1986 and his career is over.
