Happy ’80s Birthday to bat-flip pioneer and the only man traded for Pete Rose, Mr. Tom Lawless.

Happy ’80s Birthday to Stan Cliburn, who played in 54 games for the 1980 Angels, played in the Senior League, and managed in the minor leagues for more than 30 years.

Happy ’80s Birthday to Clay Parker, who won seven games over four seasons for the Mariners, Tigers, and Yankees.

After getting no offers from any teams, Jack Morris agrees to salary arbitration to stay with the Tigers. Morris won 20 games in 1986. Kinda weird that no team was interested in him. I wonder if anything untoward was happening. Nah…

The Giants release Juan Berenguer. He signs with the Twins and wins a World Series. Advantage: Juan.

12/19/86

The Angels release Bobby Grich and his career is over. He spends 17 years in the bigs, wins a ring with the Orioles in 1970, and racks up more than 1,800 hits. Dude was solid.

The Red Sox release Rick Cerone. He returns to the Yankees for 1990, spends 1991 with the Mets and wraps up his career in 1992 in Montreal.
