Happy ’80s Birthday to Mike Paxton, who won 10 games with the Red Sox as a rookie in 1977 and was traded to Cleveland in a package that sent Dennis Eckersley to Boston. Mike won 12 games with the Indians in 1978 but just 8 more over the next two seasons.

Former Oakland and San Diego skipper Steve Boros was born OTD in 1936. Steve also spent seven years in the big leagues as a player with Detroit, Cincinnati, and the Cubs. He passed away in 2010.
Former umpire Lee Weyer was born OTD in 1936. Lee was a National League umpire from 1961 until his death in 1988.

Barry Larkin, who made his big-league debut on August 13th, is named the American Association Rookie of the Year and the MVP. Larkin hit .329 with 10 homers and 51 RBI in 103 games for the Triple-A Denver Zephyrs.

The Blue Jays release Balor Moore. He spends 1981 pitching in the minor leagues and his career is over. He was a 1st-round pick of the Expos in 1969 and spent eight years in the major leagues.

The Brewers purchase Donnie Moore from the Cardinals. He makes three appearances for Milwaukee and is returned to St. Louis before being dealt to Atlanta in February of 1982.
