Brad “The Animal” Lesley was born on this day in 1958. He passed away in 2013 from kidney failure. He was just 54.

Happy ’80s Birthday to Don Slaught, who spent 16 yrs squatting behind the plate for seven different teams and got a hit off John Tudor in his first big league at bat.

Happy ’80s Birthday to Ellis Burks, who spent 18 years in the big leagues and slugged 352 career dingers.

Happy ’80s Birthday to Jeff Newman, who spent nine years in the bigs and hit a career-high 22 homers in 1979.

9/11/82

The Indians trade John Denny to the Phillies for three minor leaguers.

Denny goes 0-2 in four starts for Philadelphia down the stretch, but wins the Cy Young in 1983. Oops.

9/11/83

Danny Jackson throws three scoreless innings in relief for the Royals in his big league debut.

He’d spend fifteen years in the big leagues and win 23 games for the Reds in 1988. Dude was a workhorse.

9/11/85

Billy Jo Robidoux goes 0 for 1 as a pinch-hitter in his big league debut for the Brewers.

He’d spend six years in the big leagues.

9/11/87

Jay Buhner goes 0 for 4 in his big league debut for the Yankees.

He gets his first two hits the following day and is later traded to the Mariners, which upsets Frank Costanza.

9/11/88

Charlie Hayes goes 0 for 3 in his big league debut for the Giants.

He’d play in the major leagues for fourteen seasons and win a ring with the Yankees in 1996.

Pete

John Tudor allows three hits in 10 innings for his 3rd consecutive shutout, outdueling Dwight Gooden and the Mets 1 – 0 to move St. Louis back into a first-place tie with New York in the National League East. Cesar Cedeno’s 10th-inning homer provides the game’s only run.

9/11/87
