The Dodgers beat the Mets in the NLCS behind Orel Hershiser’s 5-hit shutout and advance to the World Series.
From September 5th, though this game, Hershiser threw 79.2 innings and allowed four earned runs. That’s pretty good.

The Mets release Mike Marshall and his career is over. He finishes with 97 wins, more than 1,200 IP mostly out of the pen, and a Cy Young. The man threw 208 1/3 innings out of the bullpen in 1974 for the Dodgers.

The White Sox release Sparky Lyle and his career is over. He finishes with 99 wins, 238 saves, two rings, and a Cy Young.
Managerial Changes

The Expos hire Bill Virdon as their new manager. Virdon was let go by Houston midway through the 1982 season. He stays in Montreal for parts of two seasons and his managerial career is over.
