Steve Sax becomes the 4th straight Dodgers player to win the N.L. Rookie of the Year award. (Sutcliffe, Howe, Fernando)

11/22/83

Ron Kittle wins the A.L. Rookie of the Year Award. Not bad for a guy who broke his neck in his first-ever professional baseball game. 

He hit 35 homers and drove in 100 for the Winning Ugly White Sox. 

11/22/85

The Cardinals reject a deal with the White Sox that would have sent Britt Burns to St. Louis in exchange for Joaquin Andujar. The Cardinals cited Burns’ ongoing hip problems as the main reason they turned down the deal. Turns out, they were right.

11/22/86

Tommy John resigns as the pitching coach at the University of North Carolina after being there for just a month. John cites differences with head coach Mike Roberts as the reason for his decision. He returns to the Yankees and wins 13 games in 1987.

Yakult Swallows (Japan Central) purchase Mark Brouhard from the Brewers. 

He spends all of 1986 and part of 1987 in Japan before returning to the States. 

Deaths

We lost Doug Jones OTD in 2021 due to complications from COVID.

We lost Tom Underwood OTD in 2010 after he lost his battle with cancer.
