Orioles manager Earl Weaver inserts Cal Ripken Jr. into the lineup playing 3B against the Blue Jays. Cal wouldn’t miss a game until 1998.

Rickey goes 3 for 4 with 4 SBs in the second game of a doubleheader against the Tigers.

The four bags give Rickey a total of 49 on the season in 49 games.

Eric Davis goes 1 for 4 with a grand slam against the Pirates at Three Rivers Stadium. It’s his 3rd slam of the month, which sets an N.L. record. He hits .329 with 12 homers and 36 RBI in May along with stealing 11 bases in 11 attempts.

Dale Scott ejects Billy Martin from the Yankees/A’s game in Oakland.

It’s the 48th, and final, time Martin is ejected from a game as a manager.

The Red Sox release Ted Sizemore. And the career of the 1969 NL Rookie of the Year is over. 

5/30/89

The Yankees release Tommy John, who finishes his career with 288 wins in 26 seasons. He faced Don Zimmer in his MLB debut and Dante Bichette in his final game.
