J.R. Richard was born OTD in 1950 and was one of the most dominant pitchers in the game until his career was ended by a stroke in 1980. He passed away in 2021.

Happy ’80s Birthday to Jeff Burroughs, 1974 AL MVP. Jeff was the overall #1 pick in the 1969 draft and slugged 102 homers in his first four full seasons with the Rangers. He was then traded to the Braves where he hit 41 in 1977.

Happy ’80s Birthday to Jack Armstrong, who made his debut with the Reds in 1988 and went 11-3 in the first half of the 1990 season, good enough to earn the start for the N.L. in the All-Star Game.

Happy ’80s Birthday to Joe Carter, who spent 16 seasons in the big leagues and hit 396 home runs, was a five-time All-Star and a two-time World Series champ.

Happy ’80s Birthday to Albert Hall, who spent nine years in the big leagues with the Braves and Pirates and was the first member of the Atlanta Braves to ever hit for the cycle.

Randy Stein was born OTD in 1953.

Randy was a first-round pick of the Orioles in 1971 and pitched in 65 games over four seasons for the Brewers, Mariners, and Cubs.

Randy passed away in 2011 due to early-onset Alzheimer’s Disease.

Happy ’80s Birthday to Mike Armstrong, who was the winning pitcher in the Pine Tar Game and spent eight years in the big leagues with four teams.

Mike was an effective middle-reliever but arm troubles plagued his career.

Happy ’80s Birthday to German Gonzalez, who won three games for the Twins over two seasons.

Happy ’80s Birthday to Jose Cano, who appeared in six games for the 1989 Houston Astros.

You may have heard of his son, Robinson.

Happy ’80s Birthday to Keith Miller, who appeared in 55 games for the Phillies in 1988 and 1989.

Keith only played in the field ten times, yet he played five positions in those ten appearances.

Happy ’80s Birthday to Wayne Edwards, who pitched for the White Sox for three seasons and also served as the drummer for a band called V.I.E.W. which featured fellow Sox pitcher Jack McDonald.

Happy ’80s Birthday to Mauro Gozzo, who pitched in the big leagues for parts of six seasons, was once traded for David Cone, and is the manager of the Gastonia Honey Hunters in the Atlantic League.

3/7/81

The Braves wish Jeff Burroughs a Happy Birthday by trading him to the Mariners for Carlos Diaz.

Jeff hits .254 with 10 homers in his lone season in Seattle before signing as a free agent with the A’s in 1982.

3/7/89

The Royals sign Steve Crawford as a free agent.

He spends the final three years of his career in Kansas City and retires after the 1991 season.
