Dyer spends two years in Detroit and retires, while Manuel spends two years in Montreal and finishes up with the Padres.

The Expos trade a PTBNL and cash to the Giants for catcher John Tamargo. Montreal sends Joe Pettini to the Giants to complete the deal and Tamargo ends up hitting a big home run late in the 1980 season to keep Montreal in the race in the N.L. East.

Coming off a career-high 14 wins in 1979, Craig Swan becomes the highest-paid player in Mets history when he signs a 5-year deal worth $3 million.
He starts the year with a 5-4 record along with a 2.21 E.R.A. but tore his rotator cuff and was never the same.

The Tigers sign Julio Gonzalez as a free agent.
Gonzalez was a prospect early in his career but had the misfortune of being a middle infielder on teams that had solid players ahead of him. That trend continued in his final season when he backed up Alan Trammell and Lou Whitaker.

The Expos sign Rich Thompson as a free agent.
Thompson appears in 19 games at the big league level in 1989 and one in 1990 before going to Texas and Toronto in 1991 and overseas to finish his career.
