He spends twelve seasons in the major leagues with the Mets, Padres, and Royals.

Jeff Cornell throws a scoreless inning out of the bullpen in his big league debut. 

He appears in 23 games for the Giants in his lone major league season.

Charlie O’Brien makes his major league debut as a late-inning defensive replacement. 

He doesn’t get an at-bat until August and collects his first hit on August 22.

Ed Olwine allows one run in two innings in his big league debut.

He pitches in three seasons for the Braves.

6/2/87

Tom Edens allows three runs in five innings in his big league debut. 

He makes two starts in 1987 and then pitches from 1990 through 1997.

John Costello throws 1.2 scoreless innings against the Phillies and gets the win in extra innings in his debut. 

He spends four years in the major leagues.

Don August throws two scoreless innings against the Angels and gets the win in his major league debut. 

He wins 34 games over four seasons.

Three years to the day after being the top pick in the draft, Jeff King goes 1 for 1 with a double in his major league debut.

Pete Rose’s foul ball hits brother Larry Shannon in the nose and breaks it.

Eric Davis hits for the cycle and drives in six because he could.

Transactions

6/2/80
The Royals release Steve Braun. He ends up in St. Louis, wins a ring, then finishes his career after the 1985 season by losing to the Royals in the World Series. Circle of (baseball) Life.

6/2/85 
The Dodgers release Mike Ramsey and his major league career is over, though he does play in the minors in 1985 and 1986.

6/2/86

The Houston Astros signed Dan Driessen as a free agent. He plays the rest of the year with the Astros, then finishes his career in St. Louis.

Managerial Changes

6/2/82

The Brewers fire manager Buck Rodgers and replace him with Harvey Kuenn.

Milwaukee goes 72-43 the rest of the way and makes it to the World Series.

Deaths

We lost Herm Starrette OTD in 2017

We lost Bruce Kison OTD in 2018.
