The Phillies trade Dick Davis to the Blue Jays for Wayne Nordhagen, then flip Nordhagen to Pittsburgh Bill Robinson.

The White Sox trade 2B Tony Bernazard to the Mariners for 2B Julio Cruz. 

Cruz hits .251 and steals 24 bases for the Winning Ugly Sox.

The Cardinals trade Keith Hernandez to the Mets for Neil Allen and Rick Owenbey.

Hernandez had submitted a list of 6 teams he could veto a trade to and he thought the Mets were on it but they weren’t.

“If they don’t want me here, I don’t want to be where a team doesn’t want me. I’ll go anyway.”

The Yankees trade Marshall Brant, Ben Callahan, and cash to Oakland for Matt Keough.

Keough goes 3-4 for the Yankees and spends all of 1984 in the minor leagues.

The Braves trade Ken Dayley and Mike Jorgensen to the Cardinals for Ken Oberkfell. 

Dayley wins for games and saves 11 for the 1985 N.L. Champion Cardinals.

The Reds trade Bruce Berenyi to the Mets for Matt Bullinger, Jay Tibbs, and Eddie Williams.

6/15/81

The Phillies sign Elliott Maddox as a free agent. 

He hits .259 for Double-A Oklahoma City and he’s done.

6/25/82

The Yankees sign Rodney Scott as a free agent after the Expos released him. 

He hits .192 in New York, then returns to the Expos for 1983 and spends the season in the minor leagues. 

6/15/87 

The Mariners sign Chuck Carr as a free agent. 

He makes his big league debut three years later for the Mets and led the NL in stolen bases in 1993 as a member of the Marlins.

The Twins signed Terry Forster as a free agent. 

He pitches in 13 games in the minor leagues and he’s done. 

6/15/82

Dave Dravecky throws a scoreless inning in relief in his big league debut for the Padres.

He wins three games his rookie season and makes the All-Star team in 1983.

Dave Van Gorder goes 1 for 3 with a single off San Francisco’s Bill Laskey in his big league debut for the Reds.

Marvell Wynne 1 for 4 with a leadoff single off Montreal’s Ray Burris in his big league debut.

He hits .243 with 12 stolen bases as a rookie.

Dave Martinez goes 0 for 3 in his big league debut for the Cubs.

He struggles as a rookie, but hits .292 in 1987 and spends 16 years in the major leagues.

6/15/80

Jorge Orta goes 6 for 6 in a 14-5 win over the Twins in Cleveland. Orta’s teammate Toby Harrah has a big day as well, going 4 for 5 and driving in 7.

6/15/83

Davey Lopes goes 3 for 4 with a double, triple, and a homer and drives in seven as the A’s beat the Blue Jays 10-1.

6/15/83

Darrell Evans goes 3 for 4 with three dingers and drives in six in a 7-1 Giants win over the Astros.

6/15/87

Mike Scott strikes out 14 in eight-plus innings in a 4-0 shutout of the Reds. Dave Smith finishes the game and strikes out the side.

6/15/87

A day after being ejected for charging the mound, Darryl Strawberry hits a 450-foot homer at Three Rivers to help beat the Pirates. It was the culmination of a “weird” week for Straw, who had this response. 

“Weird? Why?

Just because I was late twice, was benched, got fined, and had a fight? It’s part of the game.”

The Expos purchase Dan Schatzeder from the Giants. 

Schatzeder wins 18 games in his second stint in Montreal and is dealt to the Phillies in 1986. 

6/15/87

The Brewers release a minor league pitcher named Jim Morris. He makes his big league debut a short 12 years later.
