Jerry Dybzinski 1981 baseball card

Happy ’80s Birthday to Jerry Dybzinski, who was born in Cleveland, went to Cleveland St. and broke in with the Indians in 1980.

One of 10 kids, he grew up 15 minutes from Cleveland Stadium and frequently had a large cheering section for home games.

Happy ’80s Birthday to Glenn Hoffman, who was selected by the Red Sox in the 2nd round of the 1976 draft and spent nine years in the big leagues with Boston and the Dodgers.

You also may have heard of his younger brother, Trevor.

Happy ’80s Birthday to Cape Cod Baseball League Hall of Famer Tim Teufel.

Len Barker 1981 baseball card

Happy ’80s Birthday to Len Barker, who won 76 games over the course of his career, led the A.L. in strikeouts twice, and threw a perfect game for the Indians in 1981.

Happy ’80s Birthday to Dan Gladden, who finished 4th in the 1984 N.L. Rookie of the Year balloting and won rings with the Twins in 1987 and 1991.

Bill Wegman 1986 Baseball card

Bill Wegman throws 11 shutout innings against the Angels and gets a no-decision. California scores three in the top of the 16th to win the game 3-1.

In the second game of a day/night doubleheader that began at 11:15 pm, Steve Lake hits a 2-run homer at 2:33 in the morning off Matt Young to tie the game at 4-4. The Cardinals push a run across in the 10th to win it 5-4.

Deaths

We lost long-time Phillies coach Mike Ryan OTD in 2020.

Mike spent 11 seasons in the big leagues as a player and coached for the Pirates and Phillies from 1975 through 2005.
