Happy ’80s Birthday to Greg “Moon Man” Minton, who won 59 games and saved 150 more in his career. He also had the best baseball card in the history of mankind.

Happy ’80s Birthday to Dave LaPoint, who earned a save in his big league debut and never got another one.

He won a ring with the Cardinals in 1982 and managed in independent leagues after his playing days were over. 

Happy ’80s Birthday to Dan Driessen, who could hit and also pick it at 1B, recording a .995 lifetime fielding percentage there.
In the 1976 World Series, he also became the first DH in the history of the National League.

Happy ’80s Birthday to Luis Alicea, who made his debut in 1988 and spent 13 seasons in the big leagues with five teams. 

Happy ’80s Birthday to Steve Frey, who made his debut with the 1989 Expos and pitched in the big leagues for eight seasons. 

Happy ’80s Birthday to Jeff Jones, who pitched for the A’s for five seasons and coached in the Tigers organization for nearly 20 years after retiring.

Happy ’80s Birthday to Randy McCament, who pitched in 28 games for the Giants in 1989 and 1990.

He’d spend 14 seasons in the major leagues and make two All-Star teams.

Hal Morris goes 1 for 1 with a pinch-hit single off Toronto’s Duane Ward in his big league debut for the Brewers. 

He was traded to the Reds prior to the 1990 season and helped them win the World Series.

Steve Olin throws 2 2/3 scoreless innings against Boston in relief in his major league debut. 

He’d pitch until 1992 and he was tragically killed in a  boating accident during spring training in 1993.

Rickey Henderson turns in one of the most amazing performances in baseball  history when he goes 0-0 with five stolen bases and four runs scored in an A’s games against the Mariners.

Bobby Grich homers twice and drives in six in a 7-0 Angels win over the Tigers.

Pete Vuvkovich allows just one run over 11 innings but the Indians score four in the top of the 12th to win the game 5-1.

Steve Garvey’s consecutive games played streak ends at 1,207 when he breaks his thumb in the first game of a doubleheader against the Braves.

It’s the first time in Phillies history that players hit back-to-back homers to open a game.
