Biff Pocoroba was born OTD in 1953. He spent 10 seasons in the big leagues with Atlanta and hit .290 in 1977. After he retired he started Sausage World in Lilburn, GA.
He passed away in 2020. 

Happy ’80s Birthday to former infielder Mick Kelleher, who spent 46 years in the game as a player and coach before retiring in 2014.

Happy ’80s Birthday to Doug Drabek, who made his debut in 1986 and won the N.L. Cy Young award in 1990 for the Pirates when he went 22-6.

Happy ’80s Birthday to Matt Williams, who appeared in ten games with the Blue Jays and Rangers between 1983 and 1985. 

Happy ’80s Birthday to Marc Sullivan, who played five seasons in the big leagues with the Red Sox. His father, Haywood, was a former major leaguer who also served the Boston’s G.M.

Happy ’80s Birthday to Jose Bautista, who spent nine years in the big leagues with five teams.

Hw won a career-high ten games for the Cubs in 1993.

Happy ’80s Birthday to Torey Lovullo, who spent eight years in the big leagues with multiple teams and has been in coaching/managing since.

Sam Horn goes 1 for 4 with a big fly in his big league debut. 

He’d hit 14 homers in 46 games in 1987 and spend eight years in the major leagues.

Mark Guthrie throws 1 2/3 scoreless relief innings against the Orioles in his big league debut. 

He’d pitch for 15 years and win a ring with the Twins in 1991.

Michael Jack Schmidt goes 4 for 4 with 2 homers, 4 RBI and a walk-off walk as the Phillies beat the Braves 5-4 in 12 in the first game of a doubleheader.

The dingers give him a career total of 260, making him the Phillies all-time leader. More would follow.

Steve Carlton blanks the Dodgers on 5 hits. It’s the 50th career shutout for Lefty.

7/25/86

Gary Gaetti homers twice and drives in five in a 9-5 Twins win over the Yankees.

7/25/88

Roger Clemens throws a 3-hit shutout and strikes out 14 Rangers in a 2-0 win. He throws 162 pitches

7/25/88

The Cubs test the lights at Wrigley Field. This angers the Baseball Gods but they decide not to take action until the following month. 

Managerial Changes

The Cubs fire manager Preston Gomez and replace him with Joey Amalfitano. It doesn’t help.
