Commissioner Peter Ueberroth concludes agreements with the Braves and Yankees to compensate other baseball owners for potential lost attendance revenue due to games broadcast by WTBS and WPIX. Negotiations continue with WGN (Cubs) and WOR (Mets). Terms are not announced but media reports put the Braves contribution at approximately $30 million over a five-year period.

The Phillies purchase Dickie Thon from the Padres. Thon’s contract gives him the right to demand a trade and he did. He would have been a free agent had the Pads not traded him by March 15th. He hits .271 with 15 homers for the Phillies in 1989.
