Eddie Solomon was born OTD in 1951. He spent 10 years in the big leagues with multiple teams and retired after the 1982 season. He was killed in 1986 in a car crash. He was only 36.
Happy ’80s Birthday to Pat Underwood, who won thirteen games over four seasons for the Tigers.
Pat was the overall #2 pick in the draft and beat his brother, Tom in his major league debut but elbow problems scuttled his career.
Happy ’80s Birthday to Pete O’Brien, who spent 12 years in the big leagues, primarily with the Rangers.
Pete turned in his best season in 1986 when he hit .290 with 23 homers and 90 RBI.

The Reds trade Paul Moskau to the Orioles for a player to be named later. Baltimore sends Wayne Krenchicki to Cincinnati to complete the deal.

The Giants sign Joe Morgan as a free agent. After a so-so 1981, Morgan hits .289 with 14 homers and 61 RBI in his age 38 season in 1982. One of those homers was a pretty big one.

The Indians sign Ron Kittle as a free agent. Kittle hits .258 with 18 homers in Cleveland and returns to Chicago for the 1989 season.

The A’s sign Don Baylor as a free agent. In his final big league season, Baylor hits .220 in 92 games.

The Dodgers release Dusty Baker after he vetoes a trade to the A’s. Baker eventually signs with the Giants and, ironically, finishes his career playing two seasons in Oakland.
