Bill Dawley 1986

Happy ’80s Birthday to Bill Dawley, who was drafted by the Reds in 1976 and sent to the Astros in a March 1983 trade in exchange for Alan Kincely. Bill won 17 games out of the pen for the Astros in his first two seasons and made the All-Star team as a rookie.

The Pirates re-sign Lee Tunnell as a free agent. They trade him to St. Louis in April and he pitches one year for the Cards before ending his career in Minnesota in 1988.

The A’s sign Johnnie LeMaster as a free agent. He plays in 20 games and is released in June. He signs with the White Sox and spends the rest of the year in the minor leagues before retiring.

He led the National League in homers in each of his first seven seasons and led or tied for the MLB lead in 6 of those 7 seasons. That’s insane.
