Happy ’80s Birthday to Hall of Famer Roberto Alomar,  who won 10 Gold Gloves and two rings.

The great Hank Aaron (HOF Class of 1982) was born OTD in 1934. 

When he retired, he was ranked either 1st or 2nd in Home Runs, RBI, Hits, and runs scored. 

Happy ’80s Birthday to former Reds and Braves catcher Vic Correll, who wrapped up his career in 1980.

Happy ’80s Birthday to Mike Heath, who spent 14 years in the big leagues and won a ring with the 1978 Yankees.

The Royals trade 1B Cecil Fielder, who had hit .322 with 20 homers in 69 games in the Pioneer League in 1982, to the Blue Jays for Leon Roberts. Fielder spends four years in Toronto and then goes to Japan in 1989. He returns to the states with the Tigers and hits 95 homers in his first two seasons.

The Astros sign Randy Moffitt as a free agent.  

He goes 2-4 in Houston and finishes out his big league career in Toronto in 1983. 

2/5/85

The A’s sign Rob Picciolo as a free agent. He plays one more year in Oakland and retires. 

2/5/86

The Mariners sign Milt Wilcox as a free agent. He goes 0-8 and in released in June and his career is over. 

2/5/87

The Indians sign Dennis Lamp as a free agent. He’s released at the end of spring training and signs with Oakland where he goes 1-3 in 36 games. 

2/5/87

The Giants sign Joe Price as a free agent. He spends the next two and a half seasons in San Francisco and makes his only postseason appearance in 1987. 

Transactions

2/5/81

The Mets release Elliott Maddox, who had a promising career in front of him until he suffered a knee injury in 1975. Maddux signs with the Phillies and hits .259 for Oklahoma City but never again reaches the majors.

2/5/82

The Brewers release Reggie Cleveland and his career is over. 

He wins 105 games over 13 seasons and won an AL Pennant with the Red Sox in 1975.
