Former Orioles, Reds, and Yankees OF Paul Blair was born on this day in 1944. He passed away in 2013.

 Happy ’80s Birthday to Kent Mercker who made his debut in 1989 and spent 18 years in the big leagues. He won a ring with the Braves in 1995. 

Happy ’80s Birthday to Cecilio Guante, who made his debut with the Pirates in 1982 and spent nine years in the big leagues with four different teams.

Happy ’80s Birthday to Tom Wieghaus, who played eight games for the Expos and Astros from 1981 through 1984. 

Happy ’80s Birthday to Geoff Combe, who was undrafted, but appeared in 18 games for the Reds in 1980 and ’81. 

Happy ’80s Birthday to Ernie Camacho, who made his debut with the A’s in 1980 and spent ten seasons in the big leagues. Ernie saved a career-high 23 games for Cleveland in 1984.

Happy ’80s Birthday to Mark Souza, who appeared in seven games for the 1980 Oakland A’s.

The Braves trade Dan Morogiello to the St. Louis Cardinals for Donnie Moore. 

Moore goes 9-9 with 23 saves in Atlanta over three seasons. 

2/1/85

The Giants trade Jack Clark to the Cardinals for David Green, Dave LaPoint, Gary Rajsich, and Jose Uribe. Clark hits .281 with 22 dingers and 87 RBI and helps the Cardinals reach the World Series.

2/1/83

The Royals sign Mark Funderburk as a free agent.  Kansas City releases him later in the year and he returns to Minnesota. 

2/1/84

The Pirates sign Joe Charboneau as a free agent. Super Joe splits the season between Single-A Prince William and Triple-A Hawaii but the magic is gone and his career ends after the season.

2/1/85

The Orioles sign Odell Jones as a free agent. He spends the season in Triple-A and returns to the big leagues in 1986. 

2/1/86

The Cubs sign Matt Keough as a free agent. He goes 2-2 in Chicago before being released, then finishes the season with the Astros. 

2/1/86

The A’s sign Lenn Sakata as a free agent. He splits the year between Oakland and Triple-A Tacoma. 

2/1/88

The Cardinals sign Duane Walker as a free agent. He splits the year between Triple-A and the big leagues and his career is over. 

2/1/88

The Indians sign Domingo Ramos as a free agent. He hits .261 in limited action before being released and signing with the Angels.
