Happy ’80s Birthday to one of my childhood idols, Lawrence Robert Bowa. He was 3rd in Rookie of the Year voting in 1970, won two Gold Gloves, was a 5-time All-Star, finished in 3rd place in the 1978 NL MVP voting and he was one of the feistiest dudes you ever saw. You hated him if he wasn’t on your team and loved him if he was. Happy Birthday, Larry!
Happy ’80s Birthday to Mike Parrott, who went 1-16 for the Mariners in 1980 and that wasn’t the worst thing that happened to him on a baseball field that summer. Here is the story.
Happy ’80s Birthday to Gary Ward, who had a big year in 1982, hitting 28 HRs and driving in 91 for the Twins. He looked good doing it, too
Happy ’80s Birthday to Bedrock, who won a Cy Young in 1987 with the Phillies and racked up 184 saves over his 14-year career.
Happy ’80s Birthday to the scrappy Tim Foli, who was drafted 1/1 by the Mets in 1968. While he never turned into a superstar, he did play in the bigs for 16 years for the Pirates, Expos, Angels, Giants, and Yankees.
Happy ’80s Birthday to Jeff Schneider, who appeared in 11 games for the Orioles in 1981 and has a very valuable rookie card.
Happy ’80s Birthday to Chuck Baker, who spent parts of three years in the bigs with the Padres and Twins.
Happy ’80s Birthday to Luis Rosado, who played 11 games for the Mets between 1977 and 1980.
Happy ’80s Birthday to Lance Blankenship, who spent six years with the A’s and won a ring in 1989.
