Happy ’80s Birthday to Jeff Robinson, who pitched in the big leagues for nine years and once hit a game-winning homer off Lee Smith at Wrigley.

Happy ’80s Birthday to Steve Wilson, who won 13 games over six years in the bigs and later became the Pacific Rim scouting director for the Cubs.

The Red Sox trade Todd Benzinger, Jeff Sellers, and a PTBNL to the Reds for Nick Esasky and Rob Murphy. Two years later, Benzinger records the final out of the World Series.

Floyd Bannister, the defending A.L. strikeout champion, signs a 5-year contract with the White Sox for a reported $4.5 million. Bannister wins 16 games for the Sox in 1983. In the good old days of free agent compensation, Seattle selects minor leaguer Danny Tartabull.

Joe Morgan signs a one-year deal with the A’s where he establishes the record for the most lifetime homers by a second baseman. He hits .244 in his age 40 season and retires.

12/13/84

The Orioles sign Don Aase as a free agent. After missing most of the past two seasons with an elbow injury, Aase wins 10 games out of the pen for Baltimore in 1985.

The Cubs sign Lary Sorensen as a free agent. He goes 3-7 for the Cubs in 1985. 

12/13/89

The Red Sox sign Billy Jo Robidoux as a free agent. He splits 1990 between Boston and Pawtucket and retires. 

12/13/89

The Red Sox sign Jeff Stone as a free agent. He splits 1990 between Boston and Pawtucket, spends 1991 in the minor leagues, and retires. 

12/13/89

The A’s sign Scott Sanderson as a free agent. He goes 17-11 in his lone season in Oakland and is sold to the Yankees.
