Legger went 9-20 after being called up in 1986 and still works in the Phillies organization. 

Happy ’80s Birthday to Les Lancaster, who spent seven seasons in the big leagues with the Cubs, Tigers, and Cardinals. 

He won 34 games and saved 22 before managing in Independent Baseball.

 

Ken Caminiti 1988 baseball card

Ken Caminiti was born OTD in 1963. 

He spent 15 years in the big leagues and won the N.L. MVP Award in 1996. 

He passed away in 2004.

He goes 0-3 in an 8-0 loss to the Cardinals but would later be crowned King of Wrigley Field.

George Foster goes 5 for 5 with a homer and drives in 2 as the Reds beat the Astros 6-5.

The Reds are 11-1 to open the season but would lose 8 of their next 10.

Claudell Washington’s walkoff single off Joe Price give the Braves 4-3 win over the Reds and a 13-0 record to begin the season. Atlanta overcame a 3-run homer from Larry Biittner to get the win.

The streak would end the following night.

The Expos beat the Phillies 5-2 and Steve Carlton takes the loss to drop his record to 0-4 along with a 6.85 E.R.A. He goes 23-7 over the rest of the season with a 2.78 E.R.A. and wins his 4th Cy Young Award.

The White Sox beat the Brewers 7-1 to snap the Brew Crew’s 13-game winning streak to open the season.
