A beautiful night in Baltimore as the Orioles beat the Rangers 4-2. John Lowenstein and Leo Hernandez hit late homers to win it for the O’s. Game-time temps were in the 40s with a wind-chill of 10 and both home runs were hit in a snow snorm.

At age 40(ish) Luis Tiant throws a 7-inning no-hitter against the Triple-A Spokane Indians, striking out 10 and throwing just 88 pitches. He gets called up later in the year and wins two games for the Pirates.

In the first game of a doubleheader, Mike Norris dusts Lenny Randle, who tells Oakland catcher Jeff Newman that if it happens again he’s going to the mound. Newman and Randle end up going toe-to-toe and the benches empty.
Randle was involved in another bench-clearing brawl in the second game of the doubleheader as well.

Jeff Leonard and Dan Gladden are involved in a pre-game fight by the batting cage prior to the Giants’ game against Cincinnati.
Leonard took responsibility, and went into manager Jim Davenport’s office after the game and resigned as team captain.

Jack Clark lifts a foul ball and Mets catcher Barry Lyons falls into the Cardinals’ dugout attempting to make the catch.
When he does, he lands on St. Louis pitcher John Tudor and breaks his leg. The injury sidelines Todor for three months and limits him to just 16 starts on the year.
