Bill Campbell was born OTD in 1948. Soup led the league in games finished twice, appearances twice, and saves once over his 15-year career.
In 1977, he went 17-5 and threw 167.2 innings out of the pen for the Twins.
He passed away in 2023.

The Indians trade Phil Niekro to the Blue Jays for a PTBNL and minor leaguer Darryl Landrum. Toronto sends Don Gordon to Cleveland to complete the trade.
Niekro goes 0-2 in three starts and is released. He signs with Atlanta to finish his career.

The Giants sign Randy Lerch as a free agent. He goes 1-0 with a 3.38 ERA over the remainder of the season and spends 1984 in San Francisco before finishing his career back in Philadlphia.

The A’s release Mike Torrez and his major league career is over. He finishes with 185 wins over 18 seasons, including a ring with the 1977 Yankees.
