The Rangers purchase Ed Figueroa from the Yankees.
Figueroa finishes the season in Texas and appears in two games for Oakland in 1981 before his career is over.

The Braves release Ken Griffey. He returns to Cincinnati and plays there until 1990 when he’s sent to Seattle to play with his son.

Managerial Changes

The woeful Rangers announce the firing of manager Don Zimmer and replace him with Derrell Johnson.
In reality, Zim was fired earlier but Eddie Chiles asked him to stay and manage a few more games. Just one of many bizarre things that surrounded the train wreck that was the 1982 Rangers.
Deaths
Former Orioles prospect Drungo Hazewood passed away on this day in 2013.
We lost John McNamara OTD in 2020. McNamara was the A.L. Manager of the Year in 1986 and also won a division title with the Reds in 1979.
