16 Ridiculous Nolan Ryan Statistics

How can a man who struck out nearly 900 more batters than anyone else in the history of the game be overrated?

When his name is Nolan Ryan.

How can a man who walked nearly 1,000 more batters than anyone else in the history of the game be underrated?

When his name is Nolan Ryan.

With the exception of Pete Rose, perhaps no player’s career sparks more debate than Nolan Ryan’s. He was a physical anomaly, an intimidating force on the mound, and was the first player in the history of the game to sign a contract that paid him an average of one million dollars per season.

When you play as long as Ryan did you’re bound to put up some interesting statistics. Here are some of my favorites:

1:

In 1987, his age-40 season, Nolan Ryan led the N.L. in strikeouts, E.R.A., and F.I.P. among other things. He posted a WHIP of 1.14. The Astros scored 0 or 1 runs in 1/4 of his starts. His record was 8-16.
